It is stated in a sutra that Shakyamuni Buddha, out of his compassion for suffering beings, took birth as a human to show the path to liberation and buddhahood.  Thus, Prince Siddhartha of the Shakya clan was born in Lumbini in current day Nepal.  He achieved enlightenment at the age of thirty-six in Bodhigaya and entered Mahaparinirvana at the age of eighty-one in Kushinagar. These three great events took place on the same calendar day over 2500 years ago, which we now called Vesak Day.

To celebrate this auspicious day, we will be organizing the offering of bath to baby Buddha, commonly known as “Bathing the Buddha”, and the offering of lights and flowers.  There will also be a group chanting session presided by our resident teacher Venerable Jigme.

As Vesak Day is the day of birth, enlightenment and mahaparinirvana of Buddha Sakyamuni, the merits accumulated on this day will be inconceivable. These merits will help to make our lives more stress-free and obstacle-free.  Therefore, there is a great opportunity on this day to gather merits with ease for yourself, your loved ones and all sentient beings.

We invite you to join us on this auspicious occasion to accumulate immense merits and good virtues for yourself, your loved ones, and all mother sentient beings !

Happy Vesak Day !
